Zipp 808 Firecrest

General Info: Zipp's 808 Firecrest were first available for sale in 2011 and now in 2015 aftermarket supply of the 808 is plentiful. Zipp wheels have undergone minor updates over the years of this wheel.

Model Specific Info: The 3rd gen 808 - aka Firecrest - was new in 2011. With the 3rd gen 808 comes an even wider rim shape. The rim shape has also lost its toradial profile in favor of a more oval shape.  Identifying the clincher is easy because it is the first and only full carbon clincher - you won't see that aluminum braking service.

Zipp claims that the Firecrest 808 wheelset saves 96 seconds or 32 watts compared to their baseline wheel over 40k.  This is 15 seconds faster than the 2nd gen 808, and a full 24 seconds faster than the original 808.  Also notable is that Zipp claims it is a full 6 seconds faster than the much deeper and heavier Zipp 1080 wheelset.
